Against all odds, Bruna’s journey is a testament to resilience and the power of defying the hand you’re dealt. Born in Brazil and raised in Japan, she started life as an outsider, navigating two worlds that often felt impossible to reconcile. Despite the challenges, she found her passion in basketball, rising from the ashes to become a team captain and even carrying the torch at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Her story is one of beating the odds—transforming struggles into strength and using her experiences to uplift others, especially children and single mothers facing abuse and neglect.
At BYU—Hawaii, Bruna discovered a community that celebrates diversity and inclusion, empowering her to bring out the best in others and pursue her dreams. Just like basketball teaches teamwork and adaptability, Bruna’s journey reminds us that life is about playing the hand you’re dealt and bouncing back stronger.
